AGARTALA | December 22, 2018:On Thursday, an action taken report (ATR) was submitted to the Tripura High Court by the state government on the demolition of unauthorized religious structures in response to a PIL.
Following a 2009 Supreme Court order to raze all illegal religious construction, the Tripura high court had asked all eight district magistrates
to file status reports on each district.
On Thursday, the state informed the division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh that a drive has been launched in all sub-divisions.
The district administration is classifying religious structures in two
categories – those built more than 30 years ago and those built later. After
identifying the structures built illegally, the administration has begun issuing notices and, in some cases, even started relocating them.
After six months the court will hear the case again.
